How to Apply for Financial Aid
*Note: Students must re-apply for financial aid each academic year. Please be sure to apply as early as possible.
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at StudentAid.gov as soon as possible, after October 1st, for the following academic year. Consider using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) that automatically transfers tax information into the FAFSA form. For much quicker processing than mailing, submit the FAFSA electronically. All students must re-apply for the FAFSA each academic year. TCC’s school code for the FAFSA is: 001533
2. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)
The Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to you by the U.S. Department of Education three days to three weeks after you submit your FAFSA application. If you have an FSA ID (username and password) and your FAFSA information has been processed, you can log in at StudentAid.gov to view Student Aid Report information no matter how you completed the FAFSA. You should review your SAR for accuracy. If you need to make any corrections, visit StudentAid.gov/Apply-for-Aid/FAFSA/Review-and-Correct.
3. Clear Action Items
Before your financial aid can be processed, you must fulfill all outstanding requirements. The request will appear as an Action Item(s) in your Workday My Tasks or a request(s) is sent to your TCC email. This includes Action Items issued from other TCC departments.
If you are selected for verification, you will be asked to submit specific information. Please submit all documents as quickly as possible, via document attachment upload, mail, fax, or in person to the Financial Aid Office. Please do not email any documents. In most cases, it is the Federal Government who selects you for verification; however, there are instances when information seems inconsistent and the Financial Aid Office will select a student for verification.
4. Monitor Your Status
Continue to monitor your Workday My Tasks and TCC email during the financial aid process for possible further actions you may need to take. An email will be sent to your TCC email address if you are awarded financial aid.
5. View Awards in Workday
You can view your awards in Workday by selecting the TCC Financial Aid worklet and then select View Financial Aid. Your financial aid awards are based on full-time (12 credit hours) of enrollment. If you choose to enroll in less than 12 credit hours, then your awards will be reduced. Grants, service awards and TCC scholarships are automatically accepted for you. Select scholarships will post to your financial aid once TCC receives the scholarship payment from the sponsor/donor.
6. Accept/Partially Accept/Decline Awards in Workday
You will need to decide if you wish to use loans to finance your education. If you choose to use any loan, then you must accept or partially accept your loan awards in Workday and complete Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling on StudentAid.gov/Complete-Aid-Process.
You may also have been awarded Federal Work-Study. You will need to accept this award in Workday before attending Work-Study orientation. Federal Work-Study provides part-time job opportunities on and off campus. To be eligible for Federal Work-Study you must be a student in financial need, complete orientation, complete a successful background check, and apply for an open Work-Study position as advertised on MyTCC's TCC Federal Work Study Job Board.

Ways to Finance your Education

Scholarships
TCC awards millions of dollars in scholarships each year. Scholarships are awarded to students on merit basis and do not have to be repaid. Students can apply to all TCC scholarships every Fall and Spring using the online scholarship application. The scholarship application usually opens in October for all new, continuing, and transfer students; however, deadlines to apply differ.
In addition, students can receive scholarships and grants from outside sources. These include State programs such as Florida Bright Futures.
